West Virginia Trail Fest : Snowshoe, West Virginia
West Virginia Trail Fest is an annual trail running festival held every May in Pocahontas County, centered on Snowshoe Village. The event program features trail races over multiple distances and a weekend of community activities focused on the local landscape and history.
Races include:
- 100K ultramarathon, 11,500 ft of elevation gain, climbs two historic fire towers
- 50K point to point via Cass Historic Railroad, 6,300 ft elevation gain
- 30K with 3,800 ft elevation gain, climbs a historic fire tower
- 5K evening race, 650 ft elevation gain, Snowshoe Village start and finish
- 1M Kids Run one mile fun run for children
Courses pass through parts of West Virginia state parks and the Monongahela National Forest and include views of the Green Bank Observatory. Some courses summits are among the state's highest peaks and several routes use or pass historic features such as fire towers and the Cass Historic Railroad. Many events begin or end in Snowshoe Village.
Weekend activities beyond the races include a movie night, kid's activities, a ride on the Cass Historic Railroad, a farmers market and vendor expo, live bands, fireworks, a sponsored shake-out run, and an awards ceremony with a raffle and breakfast options.
