1in5K Dyslexia Dash
The 1in5K Dyslexia Dash is an annual community event held at Freestone District Park in Gilbert, Arizona. Hosted by IDA Arizona, the fifth edition of this event takes place in September to mark Dyslexia Awareness Month. The gathering serves to support individuals impacted by dyslexia and promotes awareness of Structured Literacy through a family-friendly athletic program.
Participants can choose from several event formats:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 100-Yard Kids Dash
- Virtual Run
The 5K Run/Walk is open to all ages and abilities. The course is inclusive of competitive runners, casual walkers, and participants using wheelchairs, strollers, or wagons. Those with strollers or wagons are required to start at the back of the pack. Leashed dogs are also permitted to join the event. The 100-Yard Kids Dash is an untimed sprint specifically for children aged 10 and under. For those unable to attend in person, the Virtual Run allows participants to complete their race at any location.
All registered participants receive a custom finisher's medal and a dri-fit tech t-shirt, with the option to opt-out of the shirt for a discount. The 5K event is chip-timed, and awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in multiple age categories, ranging from 8 and under to 80 and over. A post-race brunch providing items such as granola bars, fruit, and water is included for those on-site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
