BEAT THE BRIDGE 5K CHALLENGE - Scholarship run/walk/virtual
The BEAT THE BRIDGE 5K CHALLENGE is a community race and virtual event taking place on June 19, 2027 in the Village of Matteson, IL (20642 Matteson Ave). The event offers an in-person 5K Run/Walk and a virtual participation option.
The event raises funds to provide scholarships and internships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Fundraising proceeds support educational opportunities while involving local businesses, volunteers, and civic partners. The organizer notes that 100 percent of fundraising donations go directly to scholarship and internship programs.
Race features include a certified 5K course through the Village of Matteson and chip timing with a finish line clock. Registered participants receive a race shirt and finisher medal; registration by May 15, 2027 is recommended to guarantee a shirt and medal. Medals are limited to the first 200 registrants. Awards are given to the top three males and top three females overall and to top finishers in multiple age groups.
Early packet pickup is scheduled June 16 through June 18 at the Matteson Community Center, Eagles Nest room, with additional race day packet pickup. The event also includes a post-race celebration with live entertainment, food vendors, wellness activities, vendor booths, and a free house music event on the village soccer field.
