BEAT THE BRIDGE 5K CHALLENGE Scholarship Run/Walk
The 1911 Initiative presents the 3rd Annual Beat the Bridge 5K Challenge, a scholarship run and walk scheduled for June 19, 2027 in Matteson, Illinois. The event is hosted in partnership with the Village of Matteson and is organized to raise funds for scholarships and paid internships for college-bound students.
Two event options are offered:
- 3.1 Miles 5K Run/Walk (in-person) at 20642 Matteson Ave, Matteson, IL 60443, United States.
- 3.1 Miles Virtual 5K.
Registration opens on June 13, 2026 and closes on August 13, 2026. The registration fee for both options is $25. Participants who refer five people who register receive a $20 refund on their registration.
The event theme Beat the Bridge was inspired by the Matteson Bridge at mile 3 from last year’s race. That bridge appeared in the final stretch of the course and influenced the event’s focus on effort and community presence. Organizers describe the group as a grassroots organization that relies on community support rather than large corporate funding.
