BEAT THE BRIDGE 5K CHALLENGE - Scholarship run/walk/virtual
The BEAT THE BRIDGE 5K CHALLENGE is a community scholarship run and virtual event held in the Village of Matteson on June 19, 2027. The event uses a certified 5K course through Matteson and is chip timed; it includes race amenities, participant shirts, and finisher medals.
The event raises funds and provides scholarships and internships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Registrations, volunteers, sponsors, and fundraising efforts all contribute to scholarship and educational opportunities for participating students.

Logistics include early packet pickup Wednesday June 16 through Friday June 18 at Fleet Feet (South Loop), with race day packet pickup at the Village of Matteson Community Center. Registrations completed by May 15, 2027 are more likely to receive a race shirt and medal.
Awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers and to top finishers across multiple age groups, and all finishers receive a medal. The post-race area on the village soccer field includes live entertainment, food vendors, wellness activities, vendors from local businesses, and a free house music event.
