1776 Merica
The 1776 Merica event in Madisonville, TN is a July running and rucking event based at the Madisonville Kefauver Pavilion and greenway. The event offers multiple distance options and an in-person ruck division with specified weight requirements. A five-hour course cutoff applies to all events.
Distances:
- 17.76 miles
- 7.4 miles
The course follows the Kefauver area greenway and bike trail, including an asphalt greenway around the lake for the first mile, routes past the pavilion and playground, a road crossing, and the Madisonville bike trail which is described as a roughly one-mile lollipop loop with minimal elevation. The 17.76-mile format uses multiple loops finishing on the Kefauver Greenway loop; the 7.4-mile uses fewer loops and the same finish.
The ruck division requires weighed packs only; allowed pack weights are specified by participant category (men, women, and under-15 categories use different weights). Weight must be in clearly stamped plates and may not be reduced during the event; the honor system applies. A virtual option is available for the 17.76 distance with GPS-supported single-session results submitted through the same platform by the stated deadline. Organizers provide custom patriotic bibs, custom awards, event music, and a post-event hot dog cookout with additional meal tickets available for purchase.
