10k @ 10,000 Feet : Steamboat Springs Running Series
This is a trail running event at the summit of Rabbit Ears Pass, held on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Distances offered are listed below. Proceeds from the race benefit Steamboat Nordic. The event is organized under a US Forest Service special use permit on the Routt National Forest.
- 10k (actual course ~6.8 miles)
- 5k (actual course ~5.4 km or 3.4 miles)
The 10k starts at approximately 10,000 feet elevation and follows USFS dirt roads and two-track uphill before descending on single-track and finishing on cross country single-track. Total elevation gain and loss are about 950 feet each. There is one aid station on the 10k course at roughly 3.4 miles; the 5k does not have an aid station. Organizers recommend that participants bring their own water.
Packet pickup is available the day before at Rabbit Ears Running Company and on race day at the start. Race day registration is allowed but the number of entries is limited by the US Forest Service permit. T shirts are offered for an additional fee and are not guaranteed after August 15. Entry fees are nonrefundable.
Awards for first, second, and third place male and female finishers are presented near the start/finish. Every participant is entered in a prize raffle held after awards. Parking and driving directions are provided from Steamboat Springs via Highway 40 toward Rabbit Ears Pass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
