10k at 10,000 Feet
The event takes place Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the summit of the old Rabbit Ears Pass Road, Monument Parking lot near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It is organized by the Steamboat Springs Running Series under a special uses permit on the Routt National Forest and proceeds from the race benefit Steamboat Nordic.
Distances offered:
- 10 km listed distance, actual course measures about 6.8 miles
- 5 km listed distance, actual course measures about 5.4 km or 3.4 miles
The 10 km course begins at roughly 10,000 ft on USFS dirt roads and two-track, gains and loses approximately 950 feet, then transitions to downhill single-track and finishes on cross country single-track. One aid station is located on the 10 km course at about 3.4 miles; the 5 km option does not include an aid station. Participants are advised to carry their own water.
Packet pickup is available the day before at Rabbit Ears Running Company and on race morning at the start area. On-site registration is offered but entries are limited by the US Forest Service permit. Awards for top three males and females are given after the race and every participant is entered in a post-race prize raffle. Pets are not allowed at the event.
