Event Overview
The Steamboat Marathon marks its 45th annual running in 2026. Held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the event offers three distinct distance options for participants:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The marathon course is a certified Boston Qualifier. Participants run along Country Road 129, following the path of the Elk River. The route passes through green pastures with views of the snow-capped Rocky Mountains. Because of its scenic location, the event has been recognized as a top destination race in North America.
Race Experience and Technology
The event utilizes the RaceJoy mobile application to provide an interactive experience for both participants and spectators. This technology allows for live GPS tracking via a map view, enabling remote spectators to follow a runner's progress. The app also features automated GPS progress alerts and a "Send-a-Cheer" function, which delivers audio messages from friends and family to the runner during the race.
The finish line and event hub are located at 522 Lincoln Ave in Steamboat Springs. The event is supported by various local and national sponsors, and volunteer opportunities are available for those who wish to support the race without running.
