Spirit Challenge Run for Autism 10k

Event Overview
The Spirit Challenge is a running event in the Steamboat Springs Running Series. It takes place on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at Steamboat Springs Middle School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The event offers three distances:
- 10k
- 5k
- Kid’s Fun Run (800 m)
Most of the running is on paved roads. The 5k includes a short section on trail. The Kid’s Fun Run uses the middle school track. Leashed pets are allowed. Proceeds from the race benefit the Yampa Valley Autism Program. There is parking available in the school lot.
Registration opens on January 1st, 2026. Packet pick up and in person registration take place on race day at Steamboat Springs Middle School. A T-shirt is available for an extra fee. There are no refunds, as the races support local non-profit organizations.
Courses and Race Details
The 5k is a rolling road route. It starts in the middle school parking lot, goes along Amethyst Drive and Strawberry Park Road, then turns onto N. Park Road. The route uses the Butcherknife trail near Stehley Park, then continues via McKinley Street and Maple Street before returning on Amethyst Drive to the finish.
The 10k starts in the middle school parking lot and follows Amethyst Drive towards Highland Road as a rolling out-and-back through Strawberry Park. There is one aid station at the 10k turnaround.
The Kid’s Fun Run is an 800 m run with two laps around the Steamboat Springs Middle School track.
After the race, there is an awards ceremony near the start and finish area, with prizes for the top three male and female runners. All participants are entered into a prize raffle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
