Lake District Triple Challenge

The Lake District Triple Challenge is a multi-sport event held in the Lake District National Park. The one-day itinerary includes three distinct disciplines: mountain biking, trekking, and kayaking. Participants complete a circular route that starts and finishes in the village of Coniston.

The event features the following sections:

  • Mountain Biking: A 12 km off-road circuit through Grizedale Forest, including an initial ascent into the forest trails.
  • Trekking: An 11 km hike to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, reaching an elevation of 803 m.
  • Kayaking: A 1.5 km circular loop on Coniston Water using stable, two-person sit-on-top kayaks.

The hire of all necessary equipment, including mountain bikes, helmets, kayaks, and life jackets, is included in the registration. Participants may choose to bring their own mountain bike and helmet if they prefer. The event is led by qualified mountain leaders, cycling instructors, and kayak guides.

Support services provided during the challenge include group first aid, lunch, and snacks at transition points. The event is organized as a team-based challenge rather than a race. Registration typically opens at 7:30 am in Coniston, with the activities concluding by approximately 6:00 pm. Participants are responsible for their own travel to Coniston and any required accommodation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
