Girls on the Run Delaware Northern 5K Celebration
The event is a season-closing, celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. It is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2026, at Del Tech, Terry Campus, Dover, DE. The 5K course is 3.1 miles and is presented as a noncompetitive closing event for teams who prepared together during the season.
Every program participant receives a commemorative medal to mark completion. Program participants and coaches are already registered by the council and do not need to register again. Open registration fees for others are listed by age category: $25 for participants aged nine and above, and $5 for participants eight and under.
Accessibility and safety are part of the event plan. All participants must wear a race bib; each participant is assigned a running buddy for the entire course. The council monitors the course and maintains a safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to emergencies. Designated accessible parking is available and the course accommodates walking, rolling, running, pushing, or skipping.
The celebration includes additional activities such as music, dancing, happy hair stations, and on-site merchandise for sale. Volunteers support set-up, registration, course marshaling, water and cheer stations, and festival activities; volunteers appointed through the council undergo background checks.
