Pennine Barrier Ultra 50
The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50 miles trail ultramarathon organised by GB Ultras in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The route starts and finishes at Malham and includes Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet's Foss and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The course follows sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks way marked trails and offers live online tracking and a downloadable GPX route.
The event covers 2593 m of ascent, has 750 places and a total cut off of 18 hours. There are five checkpoints offering drinks and food, plus first aid cover. The race awards ITRA and UTMB mountain index points and is held under a Trail Running Association permit and UK Athletics rules. No dropbags, pacers or support runners are permitted. Finishers receive tiered medals with Gold for the top 200, Silver for places 201 to 400 and Bronze thereafter.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old, in good health and have previously completed an organised marathon under race conditions. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long sleeve base layer in a dry bag, at least 1 litre of water, a fully charged phone in waterproof covering, an emergency blanket, a headtorch and backup light source, 500 calories of emergency rations, a whistle and the GB Race Tracker GPS unit. Supporter and crew access is restricted at several checkpoints and a single vehicle per runner is requested for parking reasons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
