One Foot in the Gargrave

One Foot in the Gargrave is a Long Distance Walkers Association challenge event held on Saturday 5th September 2026. The route is a single 23 mile walk or run starting and finishing at Gargrave Village Hall in Malhamdale, North Yorkshire (Grid ref SD 931541).

Competitors must complete the route within a nine hour time limit. There is a cut off at Checkpoint 3 (16.75 miles); anyone not through this checkpoint will be asked to retire. Entries are limited to the first 200 participants.

Entry fees differ for members and non members and vary between online and on the day entry. Drinks and snacks are provided at route checkpoints and a hot meal with a vegetarian option is supplied at the finish. Special dietary requirements can be catered for. Participants are asked to bring their own mug because no plastic cups will be available; no mug means no drink. Dogs are not allowed.

Certificates are issued to competitors who finish within the nine hour limit if that option was selected on the entry form. The route is to be used with OS Explorer OL2 1:25,000. Entrants must carry a suitable map, compass, waterproof clothing and a mug. Additional recommended equipment includes a first aid kit, suitable footwear, emergency rations and spare warm clothing.
