One Foot in the Gargrave

One Foot in the Gargrave is a Long Distance Walkers Association challenge event held on Saturday 5 September 2026. The route is 23 miles starting and finishing at Gargrave Village Hall, West Street, Gargrave, Skipton, North Yorkshire BD23 3RD, in the Malhamdale area. The event must be completed within nine hours and there is a cut off at Checkpoint 3 at 16.75 miles; anyone not through this checkpoint will be asked to retire. Entries are restricted to the first 200 participants.

Refreshments are provided on the route and a hot meal with a vegetarian option is served at the finish. Special dietary requirements can be catered for. Competitors are asked to bring their own mug as no plastic cups will be available. Dogs are not allowed on the walk.

The route includes the following checkpoints and locations with mileages and grid references: Checkpoint 1 Scosthrop Lane at 5.3 miles grid ref SD 886596 with cold drinks and snacks; Checkpoint 2 Street Gate at 10.6 miles grid ref SD 904656 with hot drinks and snacks; Checkpoint 3 Boss Moor Lane at 16.75 miles grid ref SD 955619 with hot drinks and snacks; Checkpoint 4 Hills Lane at 19.6 miles grid ref SD 945585 with cold drinks and snacks; finish Gargrave Village Hall at 23 miles grid ref SD 931541 with a hot meal and hot drinks.

Entry fees differ for members and non members and are available online or on the day. Certificates may be given to competitors who finish within the time limit if selected on the entry form. Entrants must follow the event rules, carry a suitable map and compass, waterproof clothing and a mug, and are advised to carry a first aid kit, suitable footwear, emergency rations and warm clothing. The route is to be used with OS Explorer OL2 1 25 000 Yorkshire Dales Southern and Western areas. The organisers retain the right to vary rules and are not responsible for injury or mishap.
