One Foot in the Gargrave
One Foot in the Gargrave is a Long Distance Walkers Association challenge event held on Saturday 5 September 2026. The route is a 23 mile walk or run starting and finishing at Gargrave Village Hall in Malhamdale, Skipton, North Yorkshire, Grid ref SD 931541. The walk must be completed within nine hours and there is a cut-off at Checkpoint 3 (16.75 miles); anyone not through that checkpoint will be asked to retire. Entries are limited to the first 200.
Refreshments and support are provided on the route and a hot meal with a vegetarian option is supplied at the finish. Special dietary requirements can be catered for. Organisers ask participants to bring their own mug because no plastic cups will be available; drinks will not be provided without a mug. Dogs are not allowed on the walk.
Each competitor must be aged 18 or over unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Entrants are required to carry a suitable map, compass, waterproof clothing and a mug. Competitors are advised to carry additional equipment such as a first aid kit, suitable footwear, emergency rations and a warm change of clothing. The route corresponds to OS Explorer OL2 1:25,000 Yorkshire Dales Southern and Western areas. The event is organised by the West Yorkshire Group of the LDWA.
