2026 Dashing to Summer's End 5k and 10k
This event on September 12 takes place at Belle Haven Park in Alexandria and offers two measured road running options:
- 5 km
- 10 km
Both distances follow a paved route on the Mount Vernon Trail with views of the Potomac River and minimal elevation change. The 5 km is an out-and-back course that uses the Mount Vernon Trail. The 10 km follows the same route as the 5 km and continues approximately 1.55 miles further before turning for a second out-and-back segment.
The event provides chip timing, a finisher's coin, and a technical (drifit) event shirt. Water stations are located along the courses at the following approximate mile markers: for the 10 km at 0.9, 2.5, 4.0, and 5.55; for the 5 km at 0.9 and 2.5. Gatorade will be available at some water stations. Restroom facilities are available on site. Packet pickup is available at the event and organizers recommend arriving about one hour before the event to check in. There is no on-site race registration for this event.
Points earned at the event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack series and toward the Summer Series. A virtual race option is available. The Back of the Pack series groups runners by pace for series scoring.
Live results will be posted online during the event and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards recognize the top three men and women overall and first and second place in age groups 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over; overall top three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Event photos are posted after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
