Starburster (5 or 10 miles)
Starburster is a twilight trail event in Hurn Forest, based at Hospital Services Cricket Club. The course follows the main trail as an out and back route with 2.5 mile laps. The 5 mile option is one lap and the 10 mile option is two laps.
Head and chest torches are essential and additional lighting is encouraged. Trail shoes are recommended but not required because the track is hardstanding and well maintained. An aid and drinks station is available at the start and finish with savoury and sweet items; no plastic cups are provided. Toilets and a space to leave bags are available inside the cricket club.
Entry fees support forest maintenance, with 20% of costs donated to Forestry England. Minimum ages are 16 years for the 5 mile event and 17 years for the 10 mile event. The event is licensed by the TRA and will be run under UKA rules.
Practical notes include limited parking near the start and a public car park on Boundary Lane about 0.4 miles away. Public transport options include a local bus stop at St. Leonard's Hospital and nearby train stations at Bournemouth and Branksome, each about 8.1 miles from the start.
