Multi-Activity Adventure in Snowdonia
The Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) Triple Challenge is a single-day multi-activity event located in the Snowdonia National Park. Participants complete a 36 km route that combines three distinct disciplines to traverse the rugged landscape of North Wales. The event is led by qualified instructors and is designed as a team-based challenge rather than a competitive race.
Event Disciplines
The challenge consists of three sections:
- Cycling: A 17 km (approximately 10.5 miles) section starting in Llanberis, following the shores of Llyn Padarn and passing through local slate quarries.
- Trekking: A 15 km (9 miles) round-trip hike to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), standing at 1,085 m. The ascent typically uses the Snowdon Ranger path and joins the Llanberis Path.
- Kayaking: A 4 km (2.5 miles) circuit on Llyn Padarn to conclude the adventure.
Logistics and Requirements
The event follows a "leader-led" format, meaning there are no route markers; participants stay with their designated guides. A typical group size ranges from 20 to 50 people. Participants are expected to provide their own roadworthy bike and helmet, though rental options are available with prior notice. While kayaking equipment is provided, individuals should bring suitable footwear and waterproof clothing for the trek and cycle stages.
The route includes steep climbs and varied terrain, requiring a moderate to good level of fitness. Support staff, including first-aid qualified leaders and a back-up vehicle, are present throughout the day. A packed lunch and drinking water are provided to participants during the challenge.
