Frightening 4K

The Frightening 4K is a Halloween-themed 4-kilometer run/walk held in downtown Anchorage with both in-person and virtual participation options. The in-person event is staged from the Hotel Captain Cook 4th Avenue courtyard and uses an out-and-back course that goes past Ship Creek, with the finish on 4th Avenue as runners cross I Street.

The event includes trick-or-treat stations located at each kilometer along the course, a costume contest with separate categories for individuals and teams or families, and prizes for the top three male and top three female runners. Costume contest entries are accepted from both in-person and virtual participants; virtual entrants must upload costume photos by October 29 for judging. Event swag includes Halloween treats and a long-sleeve T; the page features 2025 swag and notes 2026 items will be announced later.

Packet pickup is offered on October 28, October 29, and October 31 at Skinny Raven Downtown and at the Hotel Captain Cook 4th Avenue courtyard. Virtual participants may complete their 4K anytime between October 24 and October 31. Packet shipping begins about one week prior to the event; in-state shipping is free, and shipping to the lower 48 states or Hawaii costs $5.

Safety policies prohibit pets, bicycles, and rollerblades in the race; participants using baby joggers or strollers are asked to start at the back and be courteous to others. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
