FLOW Stormwater Runoff 5K
This event is organized by Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) and is presented as the inaugural Stormwater Runoff 5K at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio. The 5K course passes through the park and includes educational displays about stormwater management practices used to reduce flooding and erosion and to direct or infiltrate runoff into local streams and creeks that feed the Olentangy River.
Proceeds benefit FLOW, a 501(c)(3) volunteer-based nonprofit established in 1997 with a mission to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe through public education, volunteer activities, and coordination with local decision-makers. The group’s watershed work covers a roughly 150 square mile area, including a 32 mile stretch of the river and nearly 400 miles of tributaries. FLOW activities include tree plantings; invasive species removal (honeysuckle, callery pear); stream water quality monitoring by citizen scientists; pollinator garden planting and maintenance; litter cleanups (481 tires recycled and over 6,000 pounds of trash removed in 2025); and operation of three volunteer-run nurseries growing over 2,500 native trees and bushes for restoration and a fall tree giveaway.

Swag for registered participants includes a race t-shirt and a swag bag with sponsor items plus a native seed packet. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women. Pre-race packet pickup is scheduled at the FLOW office, 1404 Goodale Blvd, Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43212, on the two days before the event. Race registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable.
