Zion Half Marathon
The Zion Half Marathon is a 13.1 miles road race beginning in Virgin, Utah, and finishing just outside Zion National Park near the entrance to Cable Mountain Lodge in Springdale. The course follows SR-9, a paved trail and bike path that runs alongside the Virgin River, with only two major turns along the route.
The route is paved with gentle rolling sections and an overall uphill profile, with roughly 722 feet of elevation gain. The event uses a 4 hour cutoff for the half marathon (approximately an 18 minute per mile pace).
On-course support includes five aid stations spaced about every two miles starting near mile 3 (approximate locations: 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11). Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, gels, toilets, basic first aid supplies, and a medic at the aid station near mile 7. Aid station #1 (near mile 3) serves as the official clothing drop; items left there will be taken to the finish along with gear check bags left at the start. The race is cup free, so participants should bring a reusable water bottle, reusable cup, or a hydration pack.
Event logistics note that there is no start line parking. Shuttles run from multiple locations in Springdale and from La Verkin to the start, and finish line shuttles return runners to shuttle stops. Expo and bib pickup are held at Springdale Town Park the day before the race; shipping of bibs is available for a fee.
All finishers receive a finisher medal. Place medals are given to the top five overall in male, female, and non binary categories, plus masters and age group awards. The event uses zero waste containers for compostables, recyclables, and other trash to reduce event waste. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
