About the race
The Zion Half Marathon is a paved half marathon covering 13.1 miles between the small town of Virgin and the Springdale area near Zion National Park. The course follows Kolob Terrace Road and the partially closed SR-9 corridor, running alongside the Virgin River and a paved bike path into Springdale before entering the finish area near Cable Mountain Lodge. The route gains roughly 722 feet in elevation over its length and features long desert views with increasing sandstone canyon scenery as runners approach the park.
Logistics include a pre-race expo and bib pickup at Springdale Town Park on the day before the race, race-day shuttles to the start, and no parking at the start line. Shuttle pick-up locations are provided in Springdale and La Verkin; spectators should use paid town parking in Springdale and the Springdale shuttle stops for finish-line access. Post-race shuttles return runners to Springdale and La Verkin shuttle areas.
The event operates a cup-free aid station system with five stations spaced roughly every two miles beginning near mile 3. Aid stations supply water, electrolyte drink, gels, toilets, and basic first aid. Aid station one serves as the official clothing drop and items left there will be taken to the finish. Awards use chip time for overall and masters categories for competitors who start in the lead wave; place medals and finisher medals are provided.
