Vacation Races - Zion Ultras
The Zion Ultras are a series of trail races that start and finish at Ruby Rider Ranch in Apple Valley, Utah, adjacent to Zion National Park. The event offers multiple distances on technical dirt and singletrack through desert mesas, rim trails, slickrock and ATV roads.
Distances include:
- Trail Half Marathon : 13.6 miles
- 30K Ultra : 18.9 miles
- 60K Ultra : 41.5 miles
- 100K Ultra : 61 miles
- 100 Mile Ultra : 97.6 miles
Course descriptions note routes that pass Wire Mesa, the Smithsonian Butte Wilderness edge, Grafton, Gooseberry Mesa, Mondo Z and sections above the Virgin River. The 100K and 100 mile courses include extended mesa rim trails, technical singletrack, a Mondo Z Cut descent and sections that may require a fixed rope and possible water crossings. Aid stations provide water, electrolytes, fruit, salty and sweet items, portable toilets and limited medical support at selected locations. Drop bags are permitted for ultra distances and specific rules and deadlines apply.
Logistics include a pre-race expo and bib pickup at Ruby Rider Ranch, an official campground at the ranch with primitive campsite amenities, and specified rules for crew and pacers that vary by distance. All finishers receive a medal and 100 mile finishers receive a hand crafted belt buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
