Space-Themed Running Event in Houston

Yuri's Fun Run Houston is an annual event that celebrates milestones in human spaceflight. It commemorates both the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, and the first orbital flight of the US Space Shuttle. The event is part of a worldwide celebration known as Yuri's Night, which aims to increase interest in space exploration and technology. All proceeds from the race benefit local charities.

The event takes place in the City of Nassau Bay, an area with deep connections to the aerospace industry. Many astronauts, engineers, and flight directors from the Apollo program to the present day have lived in this community. Participants follow a course that passes by the former homes of early era astronauts. The race start is located at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Houston.

Available distances include:

  • Kids K
  • 5K
  • 10K

A virtual participation option is also available for those unable to attend in person. This race serves as the first event in the Texas 5K Series. On-site activities often include interactive booths and water rocket demonstrations as part of a family-oriented space celebration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
