Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra - Peoria, IL
Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Kinsey Park in Peoria, Illinois. The course is a 100% single track trail with no roads or water crossings. The park has a Wizard of Oz theme and local wildlife such as deer, birds, and squirrels; the organizer also notes the presence of the themed "Flying Monkeys."
The event follows a backyard ultra format where a single 4.16 mile loop, called a yard, starts every hour on the hour. The format continues until only one runner remains. Runners who do not return to the start line before the next loop begins or who are not present on the start line at the hour are removed from the race. Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop and there are 5-minute and 1-minute warnings before each start.
Course rules state that, except for restroom breaks, runners may not leave the course during a loop, pacers are not allowed on the course, and runners who drop must notify organizers before returning to their vehicle. Packet pickup is available the day before and on race morning at the start/finish area. The aid station will offer snacks, warm foods, water and sports drinks as the event progresses.
All participants receive a T-shirt, sticker and participant award. There are awards and prizes for the overall winner and additional recognition for reaching 50k, 50 mile, and 100 mile marks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
