Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra : Peoria, IL (June 13, 2026)
The Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra event held at Kinsey Park, 7999 W Southport Road, Peoria, Illinois. The course is a 4.16 mile loop run repeatedly until one runner remains. The park has a Wizard of Oz theme and the trail is 100% single track with no roads or water crossings. The loop features small rolling hills with approximately 70 feet of elevation gain per mile.
Format and rules
The event uses a last-runner-standing format. A new loop begins every hour and runners must be present at the start line to begin each loop. Runners who do not return in time from their previous loop or are not at the start line at the next loop are out. Organizers provide a 5-minute and 1-minute warning before each loop. Pacers are not allowed on the course. Except for restrooms, runners must remain on the course until each loop is completed. Crews may assist runners between loops. If a runner withdraws, they must notify race staff before returning to their vehicle.
Logistics, aid and awards
Packet pickup is available the day before and on race morning at the Start/Finish. No refunds are offered; registrations may be deferred to the following year with notice. Aid station items include snacks, warm foods, water and sports drink. All participants receive a T-shirt, sticker and participant award; there are awards for the overall winner and extras for reaching 50k, 50 mile and 100 mile marks. Dogs may attend but must remain leashed at the Start/Finish and may not pace runners. Camping is not permitted; hotels are available within a short drive. Registration closes May 13.
