Event Format
The Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra is a "last runner standing" event. Participants run a 4.16-mile loop starting every hour on the hour until only one runner remains. Runners who do not return to the start line on time for the next loop are out of the race.
Course
The event takes place at Kinsey Park in Peoria, Illinois. The loop is a 100% single-track trail with no roads or water crossings. The trail theme is based on The Wizard of Oz. The course has rolling hills, with an elevation gain of approximately 70 feet per mile.
Support and Logistics
There is an aid station at the start/finish area. It offers snacks, sandwiches, fruit, warm foods like soup and potatoes, as well as water, Gatorade, and soda. Packet pickup is available the day before the race and on race morning at the start area.
Additional Information
All participants receive a T-shirt, sticker, and participant award. Additional prizes are given for the overall winner and for runners who reach 50k, 50-mile, and 100-mile distances. Pacers are not allowed on the course, but crews are permitted at the start/finish area. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed and remain in the start/finish area. Camping is not permitted at the park.
