Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra : Peoria, IL
The Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Kinsey Park in Peoria. The course is 100% single track trail with no roads or water crossings. The park has a Wizard of Oz theme and local wildlife can be seen along the route.
The race follows a "last runner standing" format. Each loop, called a "yard," is 4.16 miles and begins on the hour. Loops repeat hourly until only one runner remains. Runners who are not back at the start line by the start of the next loop are removed from the race.
Key race rules include returning to the start line on the hour, a five-minute and one-minute warning before each loop, no pacers on course, and the requirement to notify race staff before leaving the event area if a runner drops. Runners may not leave the course during a loop except to use restrooms. Crews may assist between loops.
Packet pickup is available the day before and the morning of the event at the start/finish area, and the park opens to participants to set up a station before the event. Camping in the park is not permitted; nearby hotels are available within about a 15-minute drive.
All participants receive a T-shirt, sticker, and participant award. There is an overall winner prize, and additional acknowledgements for reaching 50k, 50 mile, and 100 mile milestones. The aid station will offer a variety of snacks, warm foods, water, and sports drinks. Children and leashed dogs are welcome in the start/finish area.
