The Yellowbrick Backyard Ultra is scheduled for June 13, 2026 in Peoria, Illinois at Kinsey Park, located at 7999 W Southport Road. The course is a 100% single-track trail with no roads or water crossings and features a Wizard of Oz theme. Format, rules and logistics
The race uses a "last runner standing" backyard ultra format with a loop of 4.16 miles that starts each hour until only one runner remains. Runners must be at the start line to begin each loop and must return to the start line before the next loop begins. There will be a 5-minute and a 1-minute warning before each loop. No pacers are allowed on the course; crews may assist runners between loops. Except for restrooms, runners may not leave the course until a loop is completed. Runners who drop must notify staff before returning to their vehicle.
Packet pickup is available on the day before the race and on race morning at the Start/Finish area. Camping in the park is not permitted; there are hotel options within a 15-minute drive. Dogs are allowed at the start/finish area on a leash and may not pace runners. The aid station will offer a variety of snacks and warm foods as the event progresses, plus water and sports drinks. All participants receive a T-shirt, sticker and participant award; additional awards and prizes are planned for distance milestones and the overall winner.
