RC Athletic Club Grand Prix
The RC Athletic Club Grand Prix is a series-based competition located in Peoria, Illinois. The program allows participants to earn points by competing in several local races throughout the year. To be eligible for the Grand Prix standings and awards, participants must complete at least four out of the seven designated events.
The series utilizes an age-grading system to provide a comparison of performances across different age groups and genders. Runners between the ages of 20 and 30 are categorized in the Open Class, where points are based on actual race times. For participants younger than 20 or older than 30, finishing times are adjusted using a coefficient to estimate performance relative to the open class.
Points are awarded for each race based on finishing position within various categories, including Overall, Overall Age-Graded, Masters (40+), Masters Age-Graded, and specific Age-Graded Age Groups. The point scale awards 100 points for first place, 90 for second, 80 for third, 70 for fourth, 60 for fifth, and 50 points for all finishers from sixth place onwards.
The series includes the following events:
- Shuffler 5K (February)
- Blarney Blitz (March)
- Steamboat Classic (June) - 4 Mile distance awarding double points
- Running Back to the 80s (June)
- Detweiller at Dark (July) - Cross country course format
- Chocolate Turkey (November)
- Run, Run, Rudolph (December)
Participants who complete at least four events are eligible to receive a series shirt. Awards consist of gift certificates for top performers in each scoring category, with winners limited to one award based on their highest monetary value achieved.
