About the race
The Yellow Brick Road 5K Run/Walk is an annual community event held on the first Saturday in June and first organized in 2006. The event includes a 5K run, a 2 mile walk, and a free 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run for children ages ten and under. The Kids Fun Run is limited to 100 participants and awards a finisher medal sponsored by Rogers Behavioral Health.
The course begins at Village Green Park overlooking Fowler Lake, follows the isthmus between Fowler Lake and Lake Lac La Belle, passes through a neighborhood section, and returns to Village Green. Runners and walkers receive a custom finisher medal; 5K participants also receive a custom cotton event t-shirt and chip timing. Age group awards are given for male and female categories in 5-year brackets, with trophies for top male and top female overall and team challenge trophies for groups of four or more.
Post-race refreshments include bottled water and a variety of fruit and individually wrapped snacks provided near the finish line. The event uses a Wizard of Oz theme in recognition of the 1939 world premiere of The Wizard of Oz at Oconomowoc’s Strand Theater; participants often wear costumes. The organizer states there are no refunds for registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
