Yellow Brick Road 5K Run/Walk
The Yellow Brick Road 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run is organized by the Oconomowoc Area Chamber of Commerce and takes place on the first Saturday in June. First held in 2006, the event attracts hundreds of participants each year and uses a Wizard of Oz theme because the world premiere of the Wizard of Oz was shown at Oconomowoc’s Strand Theater on August 12, 1939. Costumes are commonly worn.
Distances
- 5K run (chip timed).
- 2 mile walk.
- 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run for children age ten and under, free and limited to 100 participants.
The course begins at Village Green Park overlooking Fowler Lake, follows the isthmus between Fowler Lake and Lake Lac La Belle, passes through a neighborhood, and returns to Village Green. Finishers receive a custom collector’s finisher medal; 5K participants also receive a custom cotton event t-shirt. Awards include top male and top female overall trophies, team challenge trophies, and age-group awards for first through third place in five-year brackets. Post-race refreshments include bottled water and a selection of fruit and individually wrapped snacks. The event is supported by local sponsors and relies on volunteers for course marshal and aid station duties. No refunds are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
