Worth the Weight Race
The Worth the Weight Race is an annual event held in the Old Westmont neighborhood of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Now in its fifth year, the event utilizes the scenic streets of the local area and features routes that incorporate sights such as the Inclined Plane. Participants can choose from several different distances and participation formats:
- 1 Mile Kids! (for children up to 7 years old)
- 3.1 Miles (5K run or walk, for ages 8 and above)
- 6.2 Miles (10K run, for ages 12 and older)
- 5 km Virtual Race (remote participation option)
The 3.1 Miles course begins at the gravel parking area for Stackhouse Park. Runners travel through Luzerne Street, Bucknell Avenue, and Tioga Street before reaching a turnaround and water station located at The Westmont Grove. The route continues through various residential streets including Edgehill Drive and Erie Street, eventually finishing at the Westmont Elementary School parking lot.
The 6.2 Miles course follows the initial 5K path to The Westmont Grove but extends further into the community. This longer route includes stretches along Menoher Boulevard, Sunnehanna Drive, and residential loops covering Emmett Drive and Pomona Drive. A second water station is positioned near the Rainbow Room Preschool on Thermal Avenue. The race concludes with a turn at the grassy median back toward the designated finish line.
The event site at 827 Diamond Boulevard provides on-site bathroom facilities for participants. In addition to the running events, the day includes music, food, and drinks. Prizes are awarded to top finishers across the competitive categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
