Wood River Run 2026 takes place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia. Purpose, course and participant guidelines
Proceeds support the Friends of the James River Park System, a scholarship fund to send underprivileged children to Passages Adventure Camp, and programming for the James River Park System education department. The race is held in memory of a young kayaker who died on the James River in 2018.
The course follows the banks of the James River along Riverside Drive and passes through Pony Pasture Rapids and other views within the James River Park System. Participants should expect sections on road, trail, and gravel paths. The main entrance to Pony Pasture is located off Riverside Drive, about two miles east of the Huguenot Bridge. Well-behaved leashed dogs and off-road capable strollers are permitted; dogs must be leashed and handlers should avoid creating tripping hazards. Part of the course runs along an active roadway.
