Event Overview
The WMU Turkey Trot is an annual tradition held at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. The event provides opportunities for participants to complete a 5K distance through various formats, including an in-person road race, an in-person walk, or a virtual alternative. The in-person activities are centered at the Student Recreation Center on the WMU campus, with the packet pick-up specifically located at the indoor tennis courts.
Participation Options
Participants can choose between several event categories:
- 5K Run: An in-person running race.
- 5K Walk: An in-person walking race.
- 5K Virtual Run/Walk: A flexible option to be completed at any location, such as a neighborhood, park, trail, or treadmill.
Registration and Logistics
Registration is available through an online system, with options to register for the race only or to include an official Dri-Fit race shirt. Those who register by early November are guaranteed their preferred shirt size. Participants can select between having their race items shipped for a fee or collecting them during the designated packet pick-up window the day before the event.
Awards are reserved for those participating in the live, in-person divisions. Honors are presented to the overall top male and female finishers in both the run and walk categories. Additionally, the event features a costume contest for in-person attendees. Virtual participants are required to submit their times online after completing their distance.
