About the race
A Backyard Ultra is a timed endurance format brought to Brighton, London and Manchester. Runners complete repeated laps of 4 miles (6.7 km) on an hourly schedule. Each lap must be finished within 60 minutes, and any remaining time in the hour may be used to rest and recover. The event continues until only one runner remains able to start the next lap.
There is no minimum number of laps and no fixed finish line; a competitor stops when they are unable to begin the next hourly lap. All participants start together and must complete each lap before the next hour to remain in the race.
Logistics and included items are provided as part of the entry. The package includes an entry ticket, participant medal, winner trophy and medal, a rest marquee for those without a pitch, a pitch to set up a rest area, hot and cold water, drinks and snacks, photography, and parking included with the ticket price. Campervans cannot park near the start/finish line.
Refunds and deferrals follow set windows: 100% refund or deferral up to eight weeks before the event, 50% refund up to four weeks before the event, and no refund if less than four weeks remain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
