Wintergreen Ekiden Relay
The Wintergreen Ekiden Relay is a five-leg team race held around Wintergreen Golf & Country Club and nearby trails in Bragg Creek. The 2025 edition was cancelled due to low registration; organizers plan to bring the event back in 2026. The route makes use of golf cart paths, an access road and an old ski hill.
Course details include a mix of surfaces and elevation changes. Two legs climb the old ski hill along the former chairlift line; that climb is about 1 km and uses single track on the ascent and double track on the descent. The golf cart path sections are roughly 20% asphalt and 80% packed gravel. The course layout intentionally includes varied elevation because the golf course sits on a slope.
Team and entry options are described as traditional five-person teams, and a three-person team option where two runners each run two legs. A solo division covers about 41 km with a special finisher medal for participants who complete it within the 4.5 hour cutoff. Lunch is included in the entry fee and beer is available for purchase. Race numbers are collected at a running store the day before the event by a single team representative, with alternatives for out of town teams.
