Winter Wonderland 5k and 10k - Arlington
The event takes place on December 20 at Gravelly Point in Arlington, VA. It offers two distances:
- 5k
- 10k
The course runs along the Mount Vernon Trail beside the Potomac River and provides views of the Washington Monument from across the river. The route is an out-and-back course that runs south to Daingerfield Island and is described as fairly flat and paved.
This is a chip-timed event. Runners receive a finisher’s medal and a technical event shirt. Water stations are provided: the 10k course has four stations at approximately miles 1.55, 2.8, 3.4 and 4.65; the 5k course has one station at approximately mile 1.55. Gatorade will be available at some water stations. Port-a-johns are located adjacent to the parking lot.
Registration fees listed are $30 for the 5k and $45 for the 10k until November 30, after which higher fees apply; the organizer notes a further price increase on race morning. T-shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before December 9. Packet pickup is offered the day before at Road Runner Sports, with a special pickup address provided by the organizer. There is no on-site race registration on race day.
Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k and 10k series, the Back of the Pack series, and the Fall Series. A virtual run option is available. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in multiple age groups; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
