2026 HBI 5K & 10k
The event offers chip-timed road races in Georgetown, Washington, DC, running along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path. The course is an out-and-back on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change.

The event provides a finisher's medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. A virtual run option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Walkers and strollers are welcome.
Points earned at this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k & Back of the Pack Series and toward the Fall Series. Live results appear on Athlinks with a QR code available at the race; final results with series points are posted on the organizer’s website the Monday after the event. Runner tracking via SMS is available during registration.
The race supports HBI operations. HBI delivers free health education, infectious disease screening, and linkage to care for underserved and high-risk communities across the Washington, DC - Baltimore metropolitan area. HBI began as the Hepatitis B Initiative in 1997 and gained 501(c)(3) status in 2006; the organization reports thousands of people reached and screened through its programs.
Practical details: packet pickup is available at the event, there is no on-site race registration, one water station is located on the 5k course near mile 1.55, and port-a-johns are near the check-in area. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to top finishers in standard age groups; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards.
