2026 HBI 5K & 10k
The event offers timed road races in Georgetown along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal path. The course is an out-and-back on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change. Walkers and strollers are permitted on course. A virtual run option is available for participants who cannot attend in person.

The event is organized to support HBI operations and its community health work. HBI provides free health education, infectious disease screening and linkage to care for underserved and high-risk communities in the Washington, DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas. Since 2006 HBI reports in-person education and screening numbers for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical event shirt and chip timing. Live results are posted online and a QR code at the race provides immediate access to individual times. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in these age categories: 19 and under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70 plus. Top three overall finishers are not eligible for age-group awards.
Logistics: packet pickup is available at the event and participants are advised to arrive well before their start time to check in. There is one water station on the 5k course at about mile 1.55.
