Winter on the Downs is a set of three single-loop ultra races organised by UK Ultra, scheduled for early December 2025. The event starts and finishes in Eastbourne, with the event location listed as East Dean Village Hall, Eastbourne, BN20 0DR. Distances offered are:
- 50K
- 55 miles
- 100 miles
Entry prices for the event range from about £78 to £175 depending on distance and category. Age limits apply per race: the 100-mile race is open to entrants aged 21 and over on the event date, while the 55-mile and 50K races are open to entrants aged 20 and over.
All three races are included in the South Downs Triple Crown challenge, a multi-race challenge beginning in 2025 that requires completing three ultra-distance races within the calendar year. Availability varies by distance.
Course and conditions
The routes form single loops on trails across East and West Sussex. Runners cross the Seven Sisters cliffs and proceed towards Plumpton, with the courses combining grass trails, farm tracks and woodland paths. Winter weather in the area can be variable, including strong winds, rain, sleet, fog, freezing temperatures and snow; some sections can become wet and muddy while other parts have good drainage.
