About the race
The Winter Island event at Matapeake Park on the Chesapeake Bay offers timed road races in two distances. Points from these races count toward the organizer's Year‑Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Winter Series.

The event includes a virtual race option for participants who cannot attend in person. Registered runners receive a finisher's medal, a technical (dri‑fit) event shirt, and chip timing. T‑shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before January 6; additional shirts are available after that date on a first come first served basis. Race medals and shirt designs are posted before the event on the organizer's social pages.
Course support includes three water stations on the 10k at about miles 1.55, 3.10 and 4.65, and one water station on the 5k at about mile 1.55; Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are available on site near the start and finish. Packet pickup is available at the event and there is race day registration; organizers suggest arriving about one hour before each race for check in. Live results are posted online with a race QR code for immediate access; final results with series points are published the Monday after the race.
The event benefits the Semper Fi and America’s Fund. The organizer enforces a no banditing policy and may delay or cancel due to weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
