Event overview
The Winter Hourglass Run/Ruck/Ski takes place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Crevasse-Moraine Trail in Palmer, AK (1201 N Loma Prieta Dr, Palmer, AK 99645). The outdoor event is a timed loop challenge with an aid station, hot drinks, and a warm-up area. The venue is the Crevasse - Moraine Trailhead; the trailhead parking lot requires a parking fee while street parking is free.
Format and divisions
The event uses an hourglass format. Every athlete begins with 30 minutes to complete a loop. After each successful lap the allowed time for the next lap is reduced by one minute (Round 1: 30 minutes; Round 2: 29 minutes; Round 3: 28 minutes; and so on). Athletes continue until they time out or choose not to restart. Maximum event length is under six hours. Final standing is based on total completed laps and last-athlete-standing where applicable; results and podiums are separate by division.
Distances:
- 2 miles - Running loop
- 1 mile - Ruck loop (ruck weight optional; standard guidance: men 35 lb, women 20 lb)
- 2 km (1.2 miles) - Ski loop
- 1 mile - Kids loop (age 15 and under)
Logistics and support
On-site staff and an aid station provide loop support and hot drinks. The event is outdoors; participants should expect winter conditions and layer appropriately. Every participant receives a swag bag and an official event T-shirt; sign-ups after January 8 cannot be assured an event T-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
