About the race
The Winter Georgetown 5k & Half takes place on January 17, 2027, at venues in Georgetown and Fletcher’s Boathouse. The event offers two distances:
- Half marathon
- 5k
Both races run on the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) Canal path as out-and-back routes on a light gravel trail. The half marathon begins and ends in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club; the 5k begins and ends at Fletcher’s Boathouse. Organizers describe minimal elevation change on the canal path and no major elevation gains on the 5k.
On-course services include multiple water stations: seven stations on the half marathon at approximately mile markers 1.55, 3.8, 4.3, 6.55, 8.8, 9.3 and 11.55, and one water station on the 5k at about mile 1.55. Gatorade is available at some stations. The half marathon has a 3 hour 15 minute completion time limit. Walkers and strollers are allowed. A virtual race option is offered for participants who cannot attend in person.
Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical Drifit event shirt, and chip timing. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second in several age categories; top three overall finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Live results are posted via Athlinks and final results with series points are published after the event. The race benefits Negotiation Works, which provides negotiation and self-advocacy training to historically marginalized communities in the Washington, DC area.
