About the Event
The Wings for Life World Run is a global event designed for both runners and wheelchair participants. The Waterloo installment in Canada allows local participants to run together using a mobile application. The race features a unique format where there is no static finish line; instead, participants compete against a Virtual Catcher Car.
The competition starts simultaneously worldwide. Thirty minutes after the beginning of the race, the Virtual Catcher Car starts moving at an initial speed of 14 km/h. It consistently increases its pace until every participant has been overtaken. Once the car catches an individual, their race is complete.
Course Details
The run takes place on a 5 km cement loop through the KW area. The route follows a specific circuit:
- Spurline Trail
- Louisa St.
- King St.
- Willis Way
The starting point is located just outside of Runners' Choice. Participants have the option to complete a single loop or repeat the circuit multiple times until they are reached by the catcher car tracking software.
Charitable Mission
This event serves as a fundraiser for spinal cord research. All entry fees and donations are directed toward projects seeking to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. The event is fully accessible to wheelchair users, ensuring an inclusive environment for all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
