Wings for Life World Run Chicago

The Wings for Life World Run is a global event designed for both runners and wheelchair participants. The race features a unique format where there is no static finish line. Instead, participants compete against a Virtual Catcher Car. This virtual vehicle begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start of the race at an initial speed of 14 km/h, steadily increasing its pace until all athletes have been overtaken.

The Chicago event takes place at Lincoln Park and utilizes the Wings for Life World Run App to synchronize with the global movement. All entry fees and donations collected from the event are directed toward spinal cord research projects.

The designated route, known as the Lincoln Park and Lakefront Loop, covers approximately 5 miles, though participants have the option to shorten or extend the distance depending on when they are caught by the virtual car. The terrain consists of paved paths and park trails through a mix of parkland and beaches.

Participants follow a specific course that includes the following landmarks:

  • Start near the Lincoln Park Zoo entrance on N Stockton Dr.
  • Passage through Lincoln Park, past the South Pond Nature Boardwalk and various gardens.
  • Connection to the Chicago Lakefront Trail at North Avenue Beach.
  • Views of Lake Michigan, city skyline, and Oak Street Beach.
  • Return path through the park area to the original starting point.

The course is described as easy to moderate in difficulty, featuring flat and shaded areas in the park. Refreshment stations and local setups are available for participants during the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
