Event overview
The Windsor Castle races take place at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, Virginia. The event offers multiple timed options:
- 10-hour
- Half Windsor (5-hour)
- Mini Windsor (2-hour)
- One-lap 5k
This is a low-key, manually timed event held in July. Conditions are likely to be hot and humid. A rucking option is available for the 10-, 5-, and 2-hour events with required weights of 30 lb for participants 150 lb or more and 20 lb for participants under 150 lb; exceptions can be requested.
Course and logistics
The course is a marked 3.1-mile loop with about 150 ft gain per loop. The trail is smooth and groomed, mainly packed dirt with some small packed gravel. The loop passes through shaded and exposed areas and includes two street crossings with minimal traffic. The park is open, so other park users may be on the course. All participants are required to carry a hydration device while on course.
A stocked aid station will include water, soda, snacks such as chips and granola bars, fruit, gummy snacks, cookies, freeze pops, and warm food items served during the day. Runners may set up chairs or tents no larger than 10x10 near the trail; there is space for tents.
Awards and finishers
Awards are given to the top three men and top three women in each event. All finishers receive a homemade finisher's medal or finisher's item. In the case of a tie in miles, the award goes to the runner who covered the miles more quickly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
