About the race
The City of Windcrest hosts the fourth annual Windcrest 9/11 Remembrance Race. This community event honors first responders and commemorates the individuals lost on September 11, 2001. The event takes place in Windcrest, Texas, with the start and finish area located at 9310 Jim Seal Dr. All proceeds from the registration fees are donated to the Windcrest Fire Department and the Windcrest Police Department.
The event offers several participation options:
- 5K run and walk
- Adaptive 5K for athletes in the adaptive category
- 1 Mile Walk
- Sleepwalker option for remote support without physical attendance
The race utilizes traditional manual timing methods rather than electronic chips. Participants receive an index card upon crossing the finish line to record their own time and submit it into specific age group baskets. Volunteers are available on-site to assist with this process. The first 100 participants to complete the course receive finisher medals.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners of the 5K, as well as the top two male and female finishers in the adaptive category. Age group awards are also provided for three places in categories ranging from 15 and under to 70 and over. Following the physical activities, the event includes an awards ceremony and light food.
