Wild Watermelon 3k
Brevard Zoo's Wild Watermelon 3k is a family-oriented running event held on zoo grounds in Melbourne, Florida. Participants follow a 3-kilometer course that passes animals, habitats and native plants, with water and Gatorade available along the route and at start and finish areas.
The event includes in-person categories for adults (12 years and older) and youth (11 years and under), plus a virtual 3K option. Registration fees listed by the organizer are $28 for adult in-person, $25 for youth in-person, and $40 for the virtual entry. Race shirts are offered for purchase online prior to the event for $20 each. The field is limited and there are no refunds.
A one-hour course cutoff is in place; participants who do not complete the course within that time will be escorted off the course. Prizes are awarded to the top 10 overall male and female finishers. All finishers receive a watermelon-themed medal and a commemorative running hat. A post-event watermelon feast will be provided.
Registered athletes receive a digital pre-race packet approximately two weeks before the event with bib pickup, parking and other logistical details; virtual athletes will receive mailed packets. The event is presented by the Florida Watermelon Association and Orlando Health, brought by Smooth Running, and benefits the Brevard Zoo.
