Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series : Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville AL
The Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series is a set of three winter trail races held around Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL. The series runs from December into January and offers both short and long series options. The organizer is RunningLane Events and the series bundle is capped at 250 participants.
Courses include bluff views, creek crossings and waterfalls. Several aid stations are provided on course offering water, Gatorade, coke, GU, pretzels, M&M's and granola bars. Marco's Pizza is a sponsor and pizza will be available at the finish of each race. Race shirts are short sleeve tri-blend. Finishers receive awards, and series entrants receive a series t-shirt and a series plaque.
Key event structure and rules:
- Frozen Yeti: 5 Mile, 10 Mile
- Frozen Trash Panda: 10K, Half Marathon
- Frozen Goat: 15K, 30K
Age groups for all races are 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Organizers state there are very loose cutoffs, with a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants and a suggestion that runners able to maintain 15 minute miles consider the Long Series. The event policy lists no refunds, deferrals, credits or transfers, and shirts or medals will not be mailed to absent participants.
