About the race
The Winter Wild Thangs Trail Series is a three-race winter trail series held on the mountains around Huntsville, AL, with courses at Monte Sano State Park (5105 Nolen Ave SE). The series runs from December into January and includes both short and long race distances across three events.
Courses feature bluff views, creek crossings, waterfalls, and multiple aid stations stocked with water, Gatorade, Coca Cola, GU, pretzels, M&M's, granola bars and similar items. Marco's Pizza is a listed sponsor and provides pizza at the finish line for participants.
Race distances by event:
- Frozen Yeti: 5 Mile, 10 Mile
- Frozen Trash Panda: 10K, Half Marathon
- Frozen Goat: 15K, 30K
The series bundle is capped at 250 runners. Signing up for the Short Series or Long Series offers stated registration savings for early and late registration windows. The event provides a short sleeve tri-blend race shirt, finisher awards, and a series plaque for series entrants.
Packet pickup is available the Friday before each race from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at RunningLane and on race mornings from 6:00 AM to 6:45 AM; RunningLane is located at 2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35801. Age groups apply for all races. Cutoffs are described as very loose, with a 17 minute per mile cutoff for Long Series participants. There are no refunds, deferrals, credits, or transfers and shirts or medals are not mailed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
