Event Details

The Racin' the Station Duathlon is a run/bike/run event on September 26, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama. It takes place on the Redstone Arsenal, where NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center is located. The event includes an individual duathlon and a relay team option.

The Course

The event is not USAT-sanctioned and has a unique theme: participants race against the time it takes the International Space Station to complete one orbit of Earth (91 minutes and 12 seconds). The Marshall Space Flight Center tracks the ISS's position at the race start to see which athletes finish before it completes its orbit.

The duathlon distances are mathematically themed:

  • Run 1: 3.14 km (1.95 miles)
  • Bike: 23 km (14.3 miles)
  • Run 2: 3.14 km (1.95 miles)

Venue & Access

The race is held at Building 4316 on Digney Road. Access is restricted as it is on an active military installation. Participation is limited to U.S. citizens. All participants must possess a Real ID. Those without existing base access are encouraged to obtain a Recreation Pass from the Army's Visitor Control Center well in advance. Out-of-town participants or those unable to get a pass should contact the race director by September 24 for alternate accommodation arrangements.

Additional Information

Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the race at Fleet Feet Jones Valley and on race morning at the venue building. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
