About the race
The Wild Irish Run on March 13, 2027, marks the event's 49th anniversary and is hosted by the City of Guntersville Recreation Department. The race is headquartered at the City of Guntersville Recreation Center, 1500 Sunset Drive, Guntersville, Alabama.
A history of the event notes its first organized running in 1978 by the Lake Guntersville Track Club. The race adopted the Wild Irish Run name in 1979 and was sanctioned in 1980 by the Road Runners Club of America when the course was adjusted to a certified 10K distance. In 1984 the event was held on Saint Patrick's Day and the Wild Irish Run name was retained.
Courses
- 10K all-paved course with small rolling hills through downtown and along Lake Guntersville, USATF certified course AL12015JD.
- 5K all-paved lakeside course added within the last ten years, USATF certified course AL19009JE.
Awards and race items include trophies and medals for the top three overall female and male finishers, age division medals for the top three in each division, and race packets that include a T-shirt and other items. Registration fee is listed as $25.00 and a shirt size is guaranteed for registrations completed by February 21, 2027.
