Wild Irish Run - Guntersville, AL
The Wild Irish Run will take place on March 14, 2026 and marks the event's 48th anniversary. The race traces its roots to 1979 when it was held as the Lake Guntersville 10,000; the course was sanctioned in 1980 and modified to the official 10K distance. In 1984 the event adopted the Wild Irish Run name in connection with Saint Patrick's Day.
The event includes two certified distances:
- 10K USATF certified course AL12015JD
- 5K USATF certified course AL19009JE
The 10K is an all-paved course with small rolling hills that passes through downtown Guntersville and along Lake Guntersville. The 5K is also all paved and follows a scenic route along the lake. The 5K was added within the last ten years to provide a shorter certified option.
The race is hosted by the City of Guntersville Recreation Department and is held on the Saturday of or the closest Saturday before Saint Patrick's Day. The event headquarters is the City of Guntersville Recreation Center at 1500 Sunset Drive. Packet pick-up is held at the recreation center on the day before the race and again on race day. Overall top three male and female finishers receive a trophy and medal; age division medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Race packets include a T-shirt and other items.
