Event Overview
The Four Reservoirs Ultra Trail Run takes place in County Durham, starting and finishing in Shotley Bridge near Consett. The event features a course designed to showcase the local landscape, including moorland, woodland trails, and four distinct reservoirs. This is a running event with specific cut-off times and is not intended for participants planning to walk the entire distance.
Route Details
Participants can choose between two trail distances:
- 53 km Ultra Trail Run: A circular route visiting Waskerley, Smiddy Shaw, Hisehope, and Derwent reservoirs via the Waskerley Way and Derwent Gorge.
- 25 km Trail Run: Follows the ultra route to Rowley Station before descending through Allensford Park and rejoining the main line at Ebchester.
The 53 km course includes a road section through Muggleswick and traverses footpaths within Muggleswick Woods. The 25 km route also utilizes segments of the Derwent Walk.
Participant Support and Safety
The event provides supported feed stations along the course. There are three stations for the 53 km distance and one station for the 25 km distance. These are stocked with hydration products, energy chews, and various sweet and savoury snacks.
Those entering the 53 km distance must carry a mandatory kit list for safety. This includes a backpack with fluids, a charged mobile phone with emergency contacts, food or gels, and a lightweight jacket. A headtorch is also required for those finishing in the late afternoon.
Logistics
The event uses live chip-timing. Free parking is available for participants at the Shotley Bridge Hospital and Surgery. Upon completing the run, finishers receive a medal, a long-sleeved event top, and refreshments. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
