Wild Dart Swim and Aquathlon : Galmpton Creek
This event stages an open-water swim and an aquathlon on a new route finishing at Dolphin Boatyard in Galmpton. Swimmers start from Stoke Gabriel and follow a downstream section of the River Dart that finishes at the boatyard, a distance of approximately 4 km by water. Registration is held beside The Shack in Stoke Gabriel and clearly labelled drop bags will be transported to the transition area at Dolphin Boatyard.
Distances
- 4 km swim
- 15 km aquathlon including a 4 km swim and a 10 km run along Greenway wooded footpaths and quiet country lanes, finishing at the boatyard
Safety and kit rules are specified. A team of safety kayakers, rescue boats and crews will operate throughout the swim so that no swimmer is expected to be more than 200 m from a safety vessel. Organisers will manage exits at the Dolphin Boatyard jetty. Tow floats are allowed but must be quick release; flippers are not permitted; hand fins are allowed but users are not eligible for podium prizes. Wetsuit rules depend on water temperature and participants may swim without a wetsuit above a stated threshold at their own risk. The event uses manual timing and swim waves are organised with the harbourmaster and the water safety team.
Transport options from the finish to the start are available to those who purchase them. Friends of The Dart will provide water quality information and be present on the day. If the swim is cancelled for poor water quality, full credits to another date are offered; refunds are not available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
