Wild Dart Swim and Aquathlon (4k and 15k aquathlon)
The event is an open water swim and aquathlon on the River Dart, finishing at Dolphin Boatyard in Galmpton Creek, Brixham. The swim uses a new section of the river and finishes at the boatyard, approximately 4 km downstream from Stoke Gabriel. Registration takes place beside The Shack in Stoke Gabriel and clearly labelled drop bags will be taken to the transition area at Dolphin Boatyard.
- 4k swim
- 15k aquathlon including the 4k swim and a run through Greenway Woods and quiet country lanes
Safety cover includes safety kayakers, rescue boats and crews, and a rule that no one should be more than 200 m from a safety vessel. Swimmers will receive a full race briefing and specific safety protocols are advised, including wearing a wetsuit with minimum 2 mm thickness, flushing the wetsuit before the start, sighting regularly, avoiding swallowing water, and using tow floats that are quick release. In the event of low water temperature a reduced course may be considered. Wetsuit rules depend on water temperature; swimming without a wetsuit is allowed above 14 degrees Celsius at the swimmer's risk, and wetsuits will be banned if water temperature exceeds 22 degrees.
The event uses manual timing and starts are organised in waves in consultation with the harbourmaster and the water safety team. Transport from the finish to the start is offered to those who have purchased it and Friends of The Dart will be present to discuss water quality. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
