WHPD 5k for Special Olympics Florida
The WHPD 5k is an athletic event organized by the Winter Haven Police Department. All proceeds from the race are donated to Special Olympics Florida, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The event takes place in downtown Winter Haven, Florida, with the course beginning near the local library and continuing around Lake Silver.
Participants have the option to compete in the following categories:
- 5 km Run or Walk
- 5 km Virtual Run
The in-person event is held rain or shine. The course is open to both runners and walkers. Registered participants receive a Special Olympics Torch Run t-shirt, with choices between cotton and dry-fit materials based on availability. All 5 km finishers receive a medal upon completion of the course. For individuals unable to attend the physical event in Winter Haven, a virtual option is available which allows for packet pick-up or delivery by mail for a small additional fee.
The assembly point is located at Central Park. Parking is available at the Winter Haven Parking Garage at the corner of 3rd St. NW and Ave. A NW. Packet pick-up is scheduled for the Friday afternoon prior to the race at the Winter Haven Library, as well as on the morning of the event. Children aged 5 and under may participate for free, though this registration category does not include a shirt or medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
