White Pine Solstice Runs
White Pine Solstice Runs are trail events held in the Oquirrh Mountains near Tooele, UT, offering three distances that follow steep canyon roads, single-track trails, ridgelines, and summit routes. The courses traverse aspen groves, pine stands, and exposed ridgelines with views of Tooele, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties.
Distances offered:
- 55K (≈34 miles, ≈12,500 ft elevation)
- Half Marathon (≈13.9 miles, ≈3,700 ft elevation)
- 8.5 Mile (≈8.5 miles, ≈2,500 ft elevation)
The 55K route visits Butterfield Pass and the Kennecott Mine Overlook, summits including Butterfield Peak East, White Pine Peak, Tooele Peak, Peak 9,712', and Kelsey Peak, and includes extended stretches above 9,000 ft and portions above 10,000 ft. Terrain breakdown for the 55K is roughly 52% single-track, 25% dirt road, 19% off-trail, and 4% double-track. Aid stations are positioned at Butterfield Pass (first two stops) and in Settlement Canyon (mile 21.5). Hard cutoffs apply at mile 21.5 and at the finish.
The half marathon and 8.5 mile courses ascend to Butterfield Pass and include a trip to Butterfield Peak East before descending White Pine Canyon. Both shorter courses specify route compositions and hard cutoffs.
Weather at these elevations can include lightning, rain, hail, or snow. Participants are advised to carry hydration, food, and gear appropriate for inclement mountain conditions. The event is USATF sanctioned. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
