Whispering Pines - 12 Hour Endurance Race
Whispering Pines is a free, donation-supported 12-hour trail event held at Whispering Pines City Park in Inverness, FL. The event base is the pavilion near Parking Lot B and the playground at 1700 Forest Drive. Remaining funds after basic expenses are designated for park support.
The course is a 5 mile loop that begins and ends at the pavilion. Trails combine single-track and double-track segments with surfaces of packed sand and pine needles, gentle hills, and substantial tree cover. Each loop crosses two paved roads within the park. The route will be marked with arrows and orange flagging; there are many intersecting trails, so attention to markings is advised.
An aid station will be located at the start/finish with standard trail food and drinks. Participants may contribute items to a shared aid-station potluck. Check-in is available before running hours. Everyone who completes at least two loops (10 miles) receives a finisher award.
Capacity is limited to 185 runners; there is no waitlist, though spots may open as people withdraw. Directions to the park reference Highway 44/W Main Street and Forest Drive, with a turn toward the Playground and Picnic Pavilion. Overnight camping is not allowed in Whispering Pines Park; nearby lodging and campgrounds are noted by organizers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
