Whispering Pines
Whispering Pines is a 12 hour endurance race held at Whispering Pines City Park in Inverness, FL, organized by A1 Ultra Events. The event is free and supported by donations to cover park rental, insurance, aid station supplies, and related costs; any remaining funds are donated to the park.
The course is a 5 mile loop that begins and ends at the pavilion by Parking Lot B and the playground. Trails combine single-track and double-track sections with surfaces of packed sand and pine needles. The route includes gentle hills, substantial shade, and two paved road crossings per loop. The course will be marked with arrows and orange flagging ribbon; there are many intersecting trails on course.
An aid station is located at the start and finish with standard trail food and drinks. Participants may bring items to share for a communal potluck at the aid station. Participants may run, walk, or use a mix of both and may complete as many loops as they choose. Participants are asked to check in with the timing crew after each loop.
Everyone who completes at least two loops (10 miles) will receive a finisher award. Event capacity is 185 runners. Nearby lodging and camping options are available off site; overnight stays inside Whispering Pines Park are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
