About the race
The Westwood Lake Triathlon is set at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo on Sunday May 16, 2027. The event offers two race distances, held around the lake and on nearby roads and trails. The transition area is at the main beach parking lot, secured with fencing, with bikes racked by race number, distance and age group.
Swim starts from the main beach. Distances are:
- Sprint swim 750 m
- Standard swim 1,500 m (two loops)
Expected water temperature is 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. The swim course is a counter-clockwise loop marked by large orange and yellow buoys. Race personnel will remove athletes from the water if they are not able to meet swim cutoffs.
All athletes share an initial 10 km section on the bike. The bike route travels through roads west of Highway 19 and through the rural areas of Jingle Pot Road, Brannen Lake and Dumont Road. Both Sprint and Standard bike courses use a single loop out-and-back format. Riders must keep to the right and display their bike frame number.
The run uses the Westwood Lake Trail. Each loop is 5.2 km: one loop for Sprint and two for Standard, with the finish near Second Beach. Aid stations are provided and participants are asked to dispose of garbage at those stations.
