Event overview

The Westwood Lake Triathlon is scheduled for May 10, 2026 at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The event includes Sprint and Standard triathlon distances, a Standard Aquabike, and relay options. Age-group awards are given three deep in five-year age categories for male and female divisions; there are also top overall awards and awards for aquabike and relays. Registration includes a race garment, silicone swim cap, body marking, stocked aid stations on the run, medical staff, and post-race nourishment. All race entries are non-refundable; an optional third-party enhanced refund protection program is available at registration. Race transfers and athlete-to-athlete transfers are allowed up to 14 days before the event subject to fees and conditions.

Course details

Distances offered:

  • Swim: Sprint 750 m; Standard 1,500 m (two loops)
  • Run: Loop of 5.2 km; Sprint one loop, Standard two loops

The swim starts off the main beach. Expected water temperature is 16-17 degrees C. The run follows the Westwood Lake Trail. Transition is located at the main beach parking lot and will be secured by fencing; bikes are racked by race number, distance and age group.

All athletes ride the same initial 10 km on the bike course. Bike routes use roads west of Highway 19, including Jingle Pot Road, Brannen Lake and Dumont/Doumont Road, and return to Westwood Lake Park. Athletes must display their bike frame number, keep to the right and not block traffic. Swim and bike cutoffs are enforced and athletes who miss cutoffs will not be allowed to continue.
