Westwood Lake Triathlon
The event takes place at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo on Sunday May 10, 2026. The park sits about 4 km west of downtown, in the foothills of Mt. Benson, and includes a 5.51 km trail around the lake. Westwood Lake has a maximum depth of roughly 20 feet and expected water temperature is 16–17 degrees Celsius.
Transition is located in the main beach parking lot a few metres from the water. The transition area is fenced and secured, with bikes racked by race number, distance and age group.
The swim is a counter clockwise loop starting off the main beach and marked with large orange and yellow buoys placed about 125–150 m apart. Race personnel may remove athletes from the water if safety or cutoffs require it. Swim cutoffs are 30 minutes for the Sprint and 1 hour 10 minutes for the Standard after each wave start.
All athletes share an initial 10 km bike section. Bike routes travel west of Hwy 19 through Jingle Pot Rd, Brannen Lake and Dumont Rd and use single-loop out-and-back formats returning to Westwood Lake Park. Intersections on course may be traffic controlled.
The run follows Westwood Lake Trail. Each loop is 5.2 km: Sprint is one loop, Standard is two loops. Aid stations are provided and participants are asked to deposit garbage at those stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
