Westwood Lake Triathlon, Westwood Lake Park (Nanaimo)

The Westwood Lake Triathlon takes place on May 10, 2026 at Westwood Lake Park in Nanaimo and is produced by Dynamic Race Events. The event acknowledges financial support from the Province of British Columbia.

Westwood Lake Park sits about 4 km from downtown Nanaimo in the foothills of Mt. Benson. A well groomed trail of 5.51 km circles the lake, which has a maximum depth of about 20 feet. Transition is located at the main beach parking lot just meters from the water and will be secured for race weekend.

Race options include Sprint and Standard distances, a Standard Aquabike and relay categories. The swim starts from the main beach. Swim distances are 750 m for Sprint and 1,500 m for Standard (two loops). The swim course is a counterclockwise loop marked by large buoys spaced roughly 125 to 150 m apart. Expected water temperature is 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. Swim cutoffs apply and athletes may be removed from the water if race personnel determine they cannot meet required times.

All athletes ride the same initial 10 km section on the bike course. The bike follows an out-and-back single loop through roads west of Hwy 19 and rural neighborhoods including Jingle Pot Road, Brannen Lake and Dumont Road. There are traffic controlled intersections; athletes must keep to the right and display their bike frame number. A bike cut-off applies and athletes arriving into transition after that cut-off will not be permitted to continue.

The run uses the Westwood Lake Trail with each loop measuring 5.2 km. Sprint athletes run one loop; Standard athletes run two. Aid stations are provided and participants are asked to deposit waste at those stations.

Race package pickup is available the day before and on race morning. Registration includes a supported swim course, professional traffic control on the bike, silicone swim caps, body marking, stocked aid stations, medical staff, volunteers, a quality race garment and post race nourishment. Entries are non refundable. An optional third party refund protection program is offered at registration. Transfers and distance changes are permitted up to 14 days before the event. Advertised courses are pending permit approval and may change if required for safety or permitting reasons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
