West Line Winder : Buena Vista, Colorado
West Line Winder is a trail running event held in Buena Vista, Colorado, with courses routed through San Isabel National Forest, the Salida Ranger District, Bureau of Land Management lands, and the town of Buena Vista. The race routes pass near the Collegiate Peaks and include long sections of singletrack and forest roads.
Distances:
- 50k : 30.6 miles, 4,000 ft ascent, avg elevation 8,500 ft
- 30k : 18.1 miles, 2,080 ft ascent, avg elevation 8,260 ft
Course details note the 50k includes about 22.4 miles of singletrack, 6.9 miles of forest or gravel road, and 1.3 miles of paved road. The 30k course includes about 16 miles of singletrack, 1.6 miles of forest or gravel road, and 0.5 miles of paved road. Cutoff times are published as 11 hours for the 50k and 10 hours for the 30k.
The event is organized by Freestone Endurance and hosted as part of 14er Fest. It is fully permitted by the United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Upper Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, and the town of Buena Vista. Race materials note optional registration choices that reduce cost for recipients who decline a shirt or medal, and registrants receive a course specific training plan, live runner tracking, professional course photos, and live music at the finish.
Additional weekend options include attempting the Sawatch 50/50 by also registering for the Sawatch Ascent 50k. Offsite camping near Mount Princeton Hot Springs is available at the Sawatch Ascent start finish for a published fee and limited number of sites.
