About the race
The Wendell Foster Half Marathon and 5K are staged from Smothers Park in Owensboro, Kentucky. The event is organized by Wendell Foster to raise funds and awareness that support people with disabilities and promote inclusion in the community.
The courses run along Owensboro’s riverfront and through the historic downtown and are described as flat, fast, and scenic. The half marathon has a course time limit of 3 hours, 45 minutes. Race operations include full and partial road closures, aid stations along the route, and professional chip timing. All finishers receive a medal, and prize money is offered to top finishers; age group awards are also presented.
The event offers multiple divisions and accommodations. Duo Team entries pair a runner with a rider athlete using an adaptive racing chair. Push-Rim divisions are available for athletes using push rim racing wheelchairs. Steps divisions are designed for participants with intellectual or developmental disabilities aiming to complete a set number of steps and finish across the line. Some race divisions note minimum age eligibility of 12 years and older.
