8th Annual Weighted Angels 5k Run & Walk
The Weighted Angels 5k Run & Walk is a community event held in Williamsburg, Virginia, starting and finishing at Billsburg Brewery. The event serves to raise awareness for pregnancy, stillbirth, and infant loss while supporting the mission of providing weighted stuffed animals to grieving families. Participants have the option to take part in person at the venue or participate virtually.
The event offers the following distances:
- 5 km run and walk
- 1 mile fun run for children
The course for the 5 km race is described as flat and fast. It begins on the service road at the start of the Virginia Capital Trail and follows a loop through the shaded Landfall at Jamestown neighborhood. The route includes an out-and-back section on Landfall Drive before returning via Robert Fenton and the service road parallel to Jamestown Road. The 1 mile Zoo Kids Fun Run, open to ages 12 and under, is an out-and-back course on the service road. Children are encouraged to wear zoo animal attire for the run.
Strollers and pets are permitted at the event, provided that pets remain on a leash. Participants may create teams to celebrate the memory of loved ones and engage in fundraising efforts. Before the physical activities begin, a memorial service is held where names are read aloud in remembrance.
Awards include cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers. Additionally, awards are presented to the top three finishers in five-year age groups ranging from 14-and-under to 70-and-over, as well as the top three men and women in the walk division.
